Teen Read Week Winners

The winners of the 2019 Teen Read Week Contest are:

Isaac Marques (Junior) and David Hatz (Freshman)

Isaac guessed the closest number to the "Guess the Gummies" contest and won the jar of gummies!  David participated in a library scavenger hunt and his name was drawn to win the Walmart gift card and cup of candy.  Teen Read Week was celebrated at SHS during the week of October 28th through November 1st. TRW is a program that helps to promote how accessible the school's library/media center is to all students.  Other small candy prizes were given to students who checked out books on their own time during this week as well.  Congrats to all of the teen winners.

READ FOR A LIFETIME

SHS Students that participated in and completed the 2019 Read for a Lifetime Program are:   Collin Quinn, Carson Collet, Walter Fischer, Ethan Boin, Amber Vroman, Natalya Hatfield, Miranda Araujo, Uriah Loveland, and Isaac Marques.

All students who sign up for and participate in the Read for a Lifetime program must meet the 4 book minimum requirement by the April due date.  A four book reporting will qualify the reader for a completion certificate from the State of Illinois, and a 6 book reporting will qualify the reader for the SHS Media Center reading incentive prize.  Read for a Lifetime is a reading incentive program sponsored by the Illinois State Library and the Seneca High School Media Center.

NEWS "U" CAN USE

NEED TO RECHARGE YOUR LAPTOP AND GET SOME WORK DONE???  SIGN-IN TO THE MEDIA CENTER AND YOU CAN DO BOTH!   THE MEDIA CENTER IS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT USE BEFORE SCHOOL, DURING SST, AND DURING MOST 2:00 PM DISMISSALS.

Destiny Book Search is a our school library's online catalog of hard copy and digital books. Tree

This catalog displays the items that our school owns and are available to students and staff for checkout.  The catalog can be found by clicking on the tree icon that is displayed on the Media Center webpage and in the Student and Staff APP on the laptops.  All users must sign up for a Destiny Quest account in order to checkout digital e-books.  Directions on how to do this can be found on the G: drive under the Media Center folder, or visit the staff at the Media Center for assistance.  You do not need to sign up for a Destiny account to check out hardcopy books.

Inserted ImageGale Databases are a subscription service that provides thousands of pre-approved articles, images, videos, and reports to assist with your research.  These resources are helpful for that second or third source required by teachers!  See the QUICK LINKS at the top of this page for the available databases.  All of the subscription databases contain MLA / APA work cited information.

Students:  if you need help with research...be sure to ask our friendly Media Center staff for some assistance.  They have been trained in Web Research and can show you how to obtain reliable resources from the Internet that will assist with your MLA/APA required resources.   MC staff can show you how to use our school's Databases or also help you in finding just the right book for your reading needs.

"Check-out"  the MEDIA CENTER WINDOW DISPLAY

The next time you are in the Media Center hallway, take a peek at the books in the display window.  Do not hesitate to ask in the Media Center if you can see one that looks intriguing to you.
