On Tuesday, Oct. 21st, the Guidance department took 15 students to the Manufacturing Career Expo at IVCC. On the way, students did a tour at Vactor in Streator. At Vactor, students got to see each step in the assembly process for the manufacturing of their utility vehicles, including metal fabrication, welding, sanding, painting, assembly, etc.
At IVCC, students learned about other manufacturers in the area and visited IVCC's automotive, welding, and truck driving programs. #TheSenecaWay ☘️

Earlier this month during our Teachers Institute, SHS staff dedicated the day to focusing on campus safety. Safety is one of the core values of The Seneca Way, and we are fortunate to have many outstanding resources and support systems in place to help ensure it.
SRO Sangston led a presentation on school safety and guided staff through the process of ALICE recertification. ALICE (Alert–Lockdown–Inform–Counter–Evacuate) training prepares individuals to respond effectively in emergency situations, and SRO Sangston is a certified instructor through the ALICE Institute.
After discussing multiple real-world scenarios, staff concluded the day with hands-on reunification training. SHS staff members complete ALICE training every two years, and we remain committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all who enter the Land of the Irish! #TheSenecaWay ☘️

New Staff Spotlight: Trevor Shohoney, Special Education Teacher & Assistant Football Coach 🏈
“I was born in South Milwaukee but moved to Franklin, Wisconsin when I was 3 years old. I graduated from Franklin High School in 2018 and from there I got a scholarship to play offensive line at the University of South Dakota. I originally went for physical therapy, but my passion has always been in education (both my parents are teachers), so after my first semester I switched back to my original plan. I played five years at South Dakota while double majoring in Special Education and Elementary Education.”
“Before coming to Seneca, I worked at an alternative school in Milwaukee for two years, helping students who needed additional support. My first year I taught 7th & 8th grade, then followed my 8th graders to high school the next year. I also coached football at Franklin High School.”
“My wife Allie and I got married in May and live in Ottawa with our two dogs, Berkley and Rey. I spend a lot of time walking the dogs and taking them on hikes. I also love fishing and just getting outdoors.”
“My parents definitely inspired me to go into teaching. My mom taught special education for over 20 years before becoming a Director of Special Education, and she often brought me in to work with her students. My dad is also a teacher and he actually taught me in 5th and 6th grade. I haven’t had a fall without football since I was five so transitioning into coaching just made sense.”
“Seneca has been a complete 180 from my last school, going from an alternative setting to general education. The biggest thing I noticed right away was the culture and how much both staff and students enjoy being here. There are just really good people at Seneca.”
“In my first year, I want to get more comfortable writing IEPs. Mrs. Keinath has been an awesome support, but I slowly want to stop asking her questions and figure things out on my own. As a coach, I thought JV went well and I’m hoping we make a nice run here in the playoffs.”

Mr. Witte's Vocational Math class is currently working on giving Mr. Maxwell's CIA (Conservation in Action) pollinator plot a face lift. The pollinator plot is home to vegetation that is native to our region and can be found by the baseball field on the south side of the school property. Students are braving the elements to work on replacing the gravel walkway with pavers. The project is really coming together! #TheSenecaWay ☘️
