Economics 💰

Last Thursday and this Tuesday, Mrs. Foster's Economics classes had the opportunity to learn about budgeting from Crystal Geiger of Financial Plus Credit Union! It was a very insightful session, covering practical tips and real-world strategies for managing money effectively. It's so valuable for our students to learn these essential financial literacy skills straight from the experts. Students took a big step toward smart spending and saving, and we are very grateful for Crystal and Financial Credit Union for preparing our students for financial success! #TheSenecaWay ☘️

On Monday, Brady Sheedy, Jessa Echeverria, and Brant Roe did a fantastic job representing SHS at State Senator Sue Rezin's Youth Advisory Council in Yorkville. They listened to speakers stress the importance of following their own path and tackling the problems of tomorrow before working with students from other schools to propose and present mock legislation. Jessa was part of the winning team, and their mock legislation will be considered at an event sponsored by Senator Rezin in Springfield next spring. Way to make SHS proud Brady, Jessa, and Brant! #TheSenecaWay ☘️

On Thursday morning, the Seneca High School Irish Female Forum was a great success! Held at Refuge Coffee & Co, this event was led by Jill Rockrohr, Director of Special Services, and Stacey Gould, Chief School Business Official. Superintendent Dan Stecken welcomed our attendees and shared the importance of growing leadership skills among our young women.

We were blessed to have three leaders from our community share their valuable experiences with our students:

Sara Olson - SHS School Board Vice President and Success Coach at Great Minds
Amy Zellers - Administrator at Pleasant View Luther Home
Alyssa Ugolini - Owner of Refuge Coffee & Co.

Among the many take-aways from the event were what it means to be a leader, following your own journey, building your support network, remaining open to opportunities, and unique challenges faced by women in the workforce.

Thank you to all of the individuals who worked to make this event a success! We are excited to see how we can grow this program in the future. #TheSenecaWay ☘️

Trick or Treat 🍬

Today was a fun and memorable day at SHS for all ages! Our faculty and staff welcomed our preschoolers from Mrs. Read's ECE program for a morning of trick-or-treating. Their laughter and excitement filled the halls as they dressed up as spooky vampires, magical princesses, and brave superheroes. Along the way, they practiced good manners, waiting patiently, and taking turns! #TheSenecaWay ☘️

As we continue to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, SRO Ken Sangston recently visited Mrs. Baxter’s Driver Education classes for his annual presentation on DUI and impaired driving. Officer Sangston discussed the importance of making good life choices, DUI and Zero Tolerance laws, and the real-life consequences of impaired driving.

Students also got a hands-on experience by driving a golf cart on a controlled course while wearing fatal vision goggles that simulate different blood alcohol levels (.08, 1.5, and 2.0. ). This powerful demonstration showed just how quickly impairment can affect reaction time and coordination. Thank you, Officer Sangston and Mrs. Baxter, for continuing to reinforce the importance of making responsible decisions behind the wheel. Let’s keep having a fun and safe Red Ribbon Week! #TheSenecaWay ☘️

Hawaiian Day 🌺

Aloha from Hawaii! Seneca High School and TRUST kicked off Red Ribbon Week today with a tropical twist. Along with their red ribbons, students showed their commitment to making positive choices by rocking their favorite floral shirts, hula skirts, and leis. Red Ribbon Week is a nationwide alcohol, tobacco, drug, and violence prevention campaign held every October. It began in 1985 to honor DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena and has grown into the nation’s largest and longest-running drug awareness program.

DID YOU KNOW? 61% of U.S. teens report underage drinking, and peer pressure plays a role in nearly half of those cases. Seneca High School is dedicated to lowering that number by encouraging students to make smart and healthy choices. Let’s have a fun and safe Red Ribbon Week! #TheSenecaWay ☘️
