🟢 Welcome Back to the 2025–2026 School Year

From the Desk of Dr. Dan Stecken, Superintendent
Seneca Township High School District 160

Dear Seneca High School Students, Families, and Community,
It is with great pride and renewed energy that I welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year at Seneca High School—a school grounded in tradition, driven by purpose, and committed to preparing every student for success.
At Seneca High School, “The Seneca Way” isn’t just a slogan—it’s our mission in motion. You can see it on the murals that adorn our hallways and it’s the mindset we bring to every classroom, every activity, and every interaction. The Seneca Way is about progressiveness, respect, accountability, and trust. It’s how we support each student to reach their potential in their Student Success Plan, while remaining rooted in the small-town values that make our school community exceptional.

🌟 Celebrating Progress: Facilities & Growth
This year brings several exciting facility improvements that reflect our ongoing commitment to excellence:
• ⚾ Brand-new turf baseball and softball fields now provide first-class spaces to match our competition gymnasium for our student-athletes to practice, compete, and build memories that last a lifetime in facilities that showcase the Irish Pride found in our community.
• 🌱 The addition of the FFA Land Lab building and upgrades to the existing building elevates our agricultural program, offering hands-on, career-ready learning opportunities in one of our community’s most vital industries.
• 🛣️ And of course, the long-awaited re-paving of Scott Street has created a more welcoming and safer front entryway to campus—something we’re all grateful for!
Each of these upgrades is a visible sign of progress—but they’re also an investment in our students’ futures, our community’s Irish Pride, and moments of awe at Seneca High School.

🎓 Putting Students First: The Student Success Plan
As we continue to enhance our facilities, we are equally committed to deepening our individualized approach to education. Our Student Success Plan isn’t just a checklist—it’s a personalized roadmap for every student’s pathway to individualized success, helping them align their education with their passions, strengths, and goals beyond high school.
Whether they’re pursuing college, a skilled trade, the military, or entrepreneurship, each student deserves a meaningful, relevant education—one that supports who they are and who they are becoming.
We’ll continue to grow this plan in the year ahead with the help of our exceptional teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff—all working together to ensure no student slips through the cracks.

👏 Gratitude & Forward Momentum
To our returning families, thank you for your continued trust and partnership. To our incoming freshmen and parents, welcome to a school that leads with heart and purpose. And to our dedicated staff—you are the foundation of The Seneca Way, and I’m honored to lead alongside you.
This will be a year of great growth, pride, and purpose. We will challenge ourselves to do the small things right and the big things with courage, staying focused on what matters most—our students and their success.

Here’s to an incredible 2025–2026 school year.

With Irish Pride,

Dr. Dan Stecken

Seneca High School has recently changed school website providers to Apptegy. The website domain will remain the same (www.senecahs.org) but there is also a new app that can be downloaded on iOS or Android. The app features a live feed and events calendar that will allow community members to see all Seneca High School communications in one place and to personalize notifications they receive based on their interests. We are very excited for this new tool and think it will be much easier to keep track of your students from just the press of a button!

Week 2 was another great week for our ESY program! Monday we worked with Donna from Garden Creations to make planters for the students to take home. Tuesday was busy with a visit from Mrs. Maierhofer’s cat Lil’ Bear and then making tye-dye shirts with Main Street Tees! Wednesday our very own Mrs. Sandeno came in and made a special painting with us to celebrate Flag Day on Friday! Then to wrap up the week we went back to work at the 252 and then got to tour two boats downstairs thanks to the generous staff. Summer is flying by!

Mrs. Keinath is running our Extend School Year (ESY) program this summer and they have had a great first week! On Monday while doing our active movement time outside, we picked strawberries outside of the Ag shop (thank you Mr. Maierhofer for planting these!). On Tuesday we worked with Mrs. H to create sea creatures and then had a tour about how SHS runs with our own Jim, Joe, and Bob! Wednesday we went to the Streator movie theater and had a private showing of Lilo & Stitch! Then on Thursday we went to work at the 252 and learned great employment skills!
