The Seneca Bass Fishing Team fished the Cal/Sag River on Saturday for the ICASST tournament. Once again, Addison Mann and Landon Hebel boated 3 fish for a total of 5 pounds and 14 ounces. This placed them 19th overall in a field of 45 boats. Awesome Job! Next up for the team is our regional/sectional qualifier tournament at Braidwood Lake this Thursday! #IrishPride ☘️

The Seneca Bass Fishing Team was busy this weekend. Our team was at Shabbona Lake for the Marmion Academy Coaches and Students Tournament. This tournament is unique because they allow coaches to contribute one fish to the livewell. Chris Thompson, Gia Rush, and Coach Applebee managed to boat three fish worth a total of 4.86 pounds and a 6th place finish out of 35. Max Mancuso and Coach Jackson had two fish worth 5.18 pounds with the big bass of the tournament at 4.08 pounds! This put them in 5th place overall. It was a great day on the water! #IrishPride ☘️

The Fighting Irish Track & Field Team competed at the Genoa-Kingston Invite on Saturday. The boys team finished in 2nd Place as a team and the girls team finished in 3rd. They also ran a 4x100 relay for throwers only but they used a banana instead of a baton and the last runner had to eat the baton. Our throwers did a great job in the "banana relay" and Brecken Anderson pulled off a come-from-behind win, finishing his banana first and winning our heat! #IrishPride ☘️

Seneca High School, along with all the other school districts included in the Regional Office of Education #35, honored Faculty and Staff at the 2026 Excellence in Education Banquet on Thursday night. This year we had the pleasure of honoring Mr. Chris Decker - Art Teacher; Mrs. Allie Keinath - Special Education Teacher; Mr. Matt Houchin - Communications Director and Retiree Mrs. Marilee Applebee - English Teacher. The Seneca High School Student Ambassadors met with their freshmen groups on Friday for the last time this school year to discuss the final exam schedule (attached below) and the summer activities taking place at SHS. It was also an opportunity for the freshmen to reflect on their first year at SHS and to discuss everyone's plans for the summer. Our Student Ambassadors have done a great job this year of mentoring the freshmen and we will miss our senior members! #TheSenecaWay ☘️

Happy School Communicators Day to our very own Matt Houchin! If you have noticed a significant facelift in our social media presence lately, Matt is the one to thank. From choir concerts to basketball games, he does a fantastic job keeping our community informed about everything happening here at STHS.
Although Matt is thriving in this new role, he is a familiar face around campus. A 2015 STHS graduate, he returned in 2021 as a full-time substitute teacher. Recognizing the need to better share the great things happening at our school, we hired Matt as our Communications Director in 2025, and he has been doing an amazing job ever since!

The JV Lady Irish Softball Team closed out their season on Wednesday with a strong win over St. Bede. These 11 athletes represented Seneca High School with pride, determination, and consistency all season long. Finishing with an impressive 13-1-1 record (highlighted by victories over several 3A and 4A programs, as well as varsity teams) speaks volumes about their talent and work ethic. Our softball program continues to set a high standard, and this group played a big role in reinforcing that reputation. It was certainly a season to be proud of. The SHS Choir, Band, and Percussion Ensemble will present their Spring Concert TONIGHT at 7:00 PM in the SHS Auditorium. Our music students have demonstrated exceptional growth this year. Please come and celebrate the fruits of their hard work if you are able! #TheSenecaWay ☘️

Today the SHS Preschool Crew celebrated their annual Field Day with a memorable visit to the SHS Agricultural Farm. Under the guidance of their student teachers, the preschoolers enjoyed an immersive experience, interacting with a variety of animals and exploring the farm's tractors. The morning concluded with a social snack and playtime at Graves Park. This successful outing marked the conclusion of another exceptional year for the SHS Preschool program. We are already looking forward to welcoming our next cohort of students in the coming year! #TheSenecaWay ☘️

The Lady Irish Softball Team DEFEATED the Lowpoint-Washburn Wildcats at home on Tuesday, 15-0! This is as disciplined as the Lady Irish have been all year. The team executed multiple sacrifice bunts, had good at bats, and were aggressive on the basepath. It was nice to see an effort like this as the team gets ready for the postseason. The Lady Irish will be in action again TONIGHT at Woodland, with first pitch set for 3:00 PM. Way to go, girls! #RollShrocks ☘️
