Mrs. Keinath's transition program is off to a great start this year.

Classroom Spotlight: Transition Program

Mrs. Keinath, Mrs. Lauth, Mrs. Weber, and Mrs. Rockrohr are off to a GREAT start this school year with the SHS transition program! Collaboration and Progressiveness are two core values of The Seneca Way. Their early work this semester with local businesses and plans for the school year will provide each student with the necessary opportunities & skills to live and work independently post-high school.

"While the transition program is not new to Seneca High School, there have been many changes for the 2025-2026 school year. With the changes, the students have been given new opportunities to enhance their skillset to better prepare them for life after Seneca High School. SHS works with ISBE to give students work experience outside of the classroom through the PECT program. Our students have been working both inside and outside the building."

"Inside the building they are cleaning the fitness center, keeping up with the Care Closet, washing cafeteria tables, shredding for SHS staff, and newly stocking a “teacher treat” station in the teacher’s lounge. Outside of the building they have been working at a local restaurant called “The 252.” At The 252 they wash tables, clean menus, wash windows and floors, and work in the kitchen with various sanitary tasks. Additionally, we have worked with Refuge Coffee&Co to deliver drinks to teachers during their 1A class. These tasks have been new, challenging, and rewarding for all the students and really strengthened their employability skills."

"While in the classroom, they have been completing various tasks and lessons that work to strengthen students’ skills in communication, problem solving, and functional academics. Another unique task our classroom has had the honor of doing this year is taking care of our school therapy dog, Lucky! The students have learned how to care for a pet by caring for Lucky, which is a future goal for all of them at this point. We have been so fortunate to work with such great people in the building and in the community to strengthen all of our skills for future success beyond the walls of Seneca High School."
