Pilot Project Letter

We decided to conduct a pilot project with 14 students in Mr. Maierhofer’s class. These students will emulate how we anticipate students using the devices next year, including taking the devices to every class and home. We will be monitoring the success daily and will be able to make adjustments based on this feedback.

March 18, 2013

Dear Parents,

On April 2, 2013, Seneca Township High School will be starting a laptop “Pilot Program.” This program will run through the month of April.  The number one goal of this trial program is to determine if the laptop we are considering is an appropriate option for students and staff before we begin our 1 to 1 technology initiative.  We hope to roll out this initiative for all students beginning in the Fall of 2013.

Approximately 15-20 members of our technology committee, consisting of teachers, media specialist, technology staff and administrators, have spent the last year researching various devices and talking with high schools that have started a 1 to 1 program.  Now, we need to test the use durability and functionality with our students.

At the bottom of this letter you will find a permission slip that needs to be checked off and returned to the main office by Tuesday, April 2nd.   Please mark one of the two responses listed on the form, sign and mail back to the main office of Seneca High School.  Your response will indicate whether your child will receive a laptop upon their return from spring break.  A self-addressed return envelope has been included in this mailing.

Also, enclosed is a copy of our Acceptable Use Policy.   Each student agreeing to participate in this program will operate under the specifications and language of this policy.  I would advise you and your child to review this policy thoroughly before making a decision to participate in the program.  If you have any questions about this policy, please contact Mr. Marty Harig or Ms. Helen Kinkin, at 815-357-5000.  Their office hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully,

Marty Voiles, Principal
