Seniors - What’s Next for Your Post-High School Plan?

IF YOU ARE GOING TO A FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY

  1. Apply for as many scholarships as possible.

  2. If you applied for financial aid (FAFSA) you should look closely at all of your financial aid offers to help make your final decision on what college/university you will attend

  3. Make your final decision on which school you will attend

  4. Read through all documents and emails you have received from that school to learn what your next steps need to be

  5. Apply for room and board (if you plan on living on campus) - there is typically a Housing Deposit that goes with this step.

  6. VERY IMPORTANT - Final decision day is May 1 - this means that by this date you have to accept your school’s admission (usually there is an Enrollment Deposit) and financial aid package (if you qualified) by this day.  If you do not do this step, your spot could be given to another student, and you may not receive your financial aid!!

IF YOU ARE GOING TO A TWO-YEAR COLLEGE (IVCC or JJC)

IVCC

1. If you haven’t already, click apply

2. Due to COVID-19, IVCC is not offering placement testing at this time.

IVCC Assessment Center is closed until at least April 30th due to the Illinois mandate to shelter in place.   All Assessment Center services are not available at this time.  You may make an appointment at www.registerblast.com/ivcc for May 18th or later.  Please know that this is only a tentative date for our services to be available once again.

3. After you have applied make sure to reserve a counseling appointment here

Make sure to be checking your IVCC email.  If you have forgotten that, contact one of the two ladies I mention in the next number. At this time, placement testing before your FCR appointment will not be required.  IVCC is currently working on implementing multiple measure policies that may allow for you to register for coursework without placement testing.

4. If you have more questions feel free to contact Gracelyn (gracelyn_Quesse@ivcc.edu) or Aseret (Aseret_Loveland@ivcc.edu) for any specific questions they may have.

JJC

1. If you have not applied yet, the free online application is available at JJC.edu/Applynow.  Once you have applied, your JJC account will be created within 24-72 hours.

2. In order to access your JJC email, you will need to retrieve your Username then you will need to create a password. If you need assistance please contact the Student 24/7 Tech Support Hotline: (866) 281-3638. Please check your email account frequently, as this is the method the college will communicate important information.

3. If you have taken the SAT or ACT test you may be exempt from taking placement exams at JJC.  At this time, JJC is not offering placement testing until April 30, 2020. Feel free to email JJC to check if your scores have been received and/or if you are exempt from taking placement tests. SAT scores are Reading and Writing of a 480 and Math of 530.

4. Complete the New Student Presentation located in MyJJC.
