McDonald Wins State
Briscoe and Hovious Place Second
Joel McDonald of The Seneca FFA was named the state winner of the Forage Production Proficiency Award at the University of Illinois on Saturday. The announcement propels Joel to national competition this summer, with the declaration of the national winner to occur at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October.
Nick Briscoe (Ag Services) and Tyler Hovious (Forest Products) just missed a state championship as they placed second in the state. Others competing were, Austin Granby (Floriculture), Kaitie Maierhofer (Poultry), Brandon Cook (Nursery Operations), and Marc Muraro (Ag Mechanics). All advance to the state finals via winning both the section and district competitions.
Joel’s Forage Supervised Agriculture Experience Program consists of twenty-six acres of alfalfa hay that he has managed for the past three years. Joel operates all phases of the operation including production decision, machinery maintenance and marketing. In addition to winning the state forage proficiency award, Joel has been serving as the Seneca FFA President and has received his State FFA Degree.
