RECOMMENDED READING LISTS:
READ FOR A LIFETIME- Clicking on this link will take you to a .pdf listing that provides a summary of the titles included in this program that is initiated by the State of Illinois. The SHS Media Center supports the RFL program. This year's deadline for sign-up was October 23rd. All participants should be sure to read at least 4 books from the RFL list and then log them on the sheet located in the Media Center. Deadline for sign-up is October 24, 2008. Deadline for program completion is April 10, 2009. Participants that finish this program will receive a certificate from the State as well as a reward from the SHS Media Center. A gift certificate drawing will be held for all that finish the 4 required books. All books listed in this program are available for checkout at the MC.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN AWARDS - After using the this link, click on the 2009 Annotated List to see the latest collection of titles in this category. The Media Center has purchased all of the Abraham Lincoln award winning books which are available for student checkout. Currently, these books are in the MC display window. Take a peek and ask a MC staff person to retrieve a book that you are interested in checking out.
ALEX AWARDS The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18. The winning titles are selected from the previous year's publishing. The MC has obtained copies of the Alex Award winning books for student checkout. Ask a MC staff person if you wish to borrow one.
PARKER'S PICKS is a listing that is released bi-monthly which provides students with a short summary of our Librarian's choice reading suggestions. The selections are located behind the Checkout counter in the Media Center. Feel free to e-mail Mrs. Parker to offer feedback on any of the choices that you have read or to submit suggestions for future Parker Picks as well.
SHS BEST BOOKS OF Yearly submissions of teacher and staff reading selections that they are recommending for your reading pleasure! The SHS Media Center has copies of all the picks for you to checkout.
