Weber, Mr. Kent
Agriculture Education Instructor
August 15, 2008
Subjects Taught: I currently teach Introduction to Agriculture, Animal Science, and Agricultural Mechanics. I started teaching at Mazon High School in 1988. I moved to Seneca in the fall of 1989. My teaching subjects have also included Agriculture Management and Soil Science. The highlight of my teaching career is the consolidation of Seneca and Mazon High Schools in 1990 which brought many great students and families together.
School Activities: As one of two FFA advisors, keeping busy with 180 FFA members and the 200 different FFA activities that they participate in, is a full time job in itself. I am able to visit many of the homes and work sights of our students, were they excel and are role models for people around them. I am also one of two Student Council Advisors that are responsible for all Homecoming and Prom Activities. I enjoy this aspect of teaching as I get to see students socializing with an adult attitude.
Education: I completed my B.S. degree from Illinois State University in 1988 in Agriculture Education. I began teaching and started my masters program at the University of Illinois. I completed my degree in Agriculture Education in 1992. Since then I have taken classes every summer from Southern Illinois University or Western Illinois Univesity.
Family: I grew up in a small eastern Illinois town called Cissna Park, which is a great deal like Mazon. I lived on a dairy farm for the first twenty two years with five bothers and a sister before I began teaching. I married Margi in 1994 and we have two highly energetic little boys. Lane born in 2000 and Peyton born in 2003.
Personal Interest: I spend my free time updating a 130 year old house in Seneca. As a family we spend any time available doing outdoor activities. I also make sure to spend two weeks a year fishing with my family in Wisconsin and Canada. I am quickly learning what it is like to be a parent of young children participating in the sport activities in the community. When I find nothing else to do, I spend time as a 15 year member of the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department.
