American Legion Oratorical Contest
Qualifications: Grade 9-12; Speech Contests begin in January and can go to a national level. See www.illegion.org for more info.
Golden Apple Scholarship
Deadline: November 30, 2008
Qualifications: For class of 2009, entering the field of education , must be nominated by your counselor if interested.
SAE Engineering Scholarship
Deadline: December 1, 2008-Postmark
Qualifications: Senior who intend to earn engineering degree or related science. GPA, ACT and class rank important. Seven different scholarships available. Go to www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm for info.
Illinois PTA Scholarship
Deadline: December 1, 2008
Qualifications: Must be a senior preparing to enter an education or ed-related degree and must be in the upper 25% of their class.
AXA Achievement Scholarship
Deadline: December 15, 2008-Online
Qualifications: Senior attending a two or four year college in the fall and must have outstanding achievement in school, community, or work activities. Apply at www.axa-achievement.com
Columbia College YOung Authors Writing Contest
Deadline: December 19, 2008
Qualifications: For 9th- 12th grades. Must submit fiction, creative nonfiction and playwriting to Columbia College in Chicago. Download forms @ www.colum.edu/Academics/Fiction_Writing/YA/YA09
American Legion Americanism Essay Contest
Deadline: February 2, 2009
Qualifications: Grade 8-12: Must write a 500-word essay on selected topic. See www.illegion.org.org for more info.
KFC Colonel's Scholarship
Deadline: February 10, 2009
Qualifications: Must be a senior and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher and attend a 2 or 4 year college in the fall to begin process to earn a bachelors degree. Apply on-line @ www.kfcscholars.org
Ronald McDonald House Charity National Scholarship

Ayn Rand Essay Contest
Deadline: March 20, 2009 for 9th and 10 grades - April 25, 2009 for 11th and 12th
Qualifications: 9-12 grades - Essay contest based on essay about two of Ayn Rand's books: Anthem for 9th and 10th graders. The Fountainhead for 11th and 12th grades.
AFSA-American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship
Deadline: April 1, 2009
Qualifications: Senior, enrolling in a two or four year college or trade school in the fall. Must read an essay and take an online test.
American Legion Boy Scout Scholarship
Deadline: April 30, 2009
Qualifications: Senior; Good academics and must be a qualified senior by scout or explorer. 500 essay requirement.
Kendall County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship
Deadline: July 1, 2009-Postmark
Qualifications: Senior pursuing an Ag field of study at college and must line in LaSalle County.
